BCSF Best Management Practices
The BC Speleological Federation has been developing guidance
documents on caving and other activities in cave and karst areas.
The BCSF BMP series summarizes accepted practices to protect
caves, karst and the species living in and around them. This is a
continuing process, both in the topics to be addressed and in the
practices themselves, which will be open to revision over time.
BMP Caving Practices -
Caving is a generally safe activity with suitable preparation. This
BMP addresses practices which are intended to protect both the
caving teams and the caves themselves.
BMP Cave Conservation -
Caves and karst can be vulnerable to damage by industrial and
recreational activities. This BMP recommends practices to
protect these fragile environments and the important resources
they contain.
BMP White-nose Syndrome -
This fungal disease has devastated bat populations
through eastern North America and may be spread through
caving activities. This BMP outlines methods intended to
reduce the spread
